Patrol Deputy Openings

Patrol Deputy, Lateral

We're actively recruiting highly motivated, self-directed candidates with strong communication and interpersonal skills to create a pool of candidates eligible for current and future vacancies for Patrol Deputy (Lateral, Experienced).

This recruitment is for experienced law-enforcement professionals only. It’s open to applicants who are currently or have been certified as a basic police officer within the last five (5) years and have completed at least eighteen (18) months of law-enforcement experience as a uniformed civilian peace officer. Oregon Department of Standards and Training (DPSST) maintains authority to determine acceptable lateral transfer of out of state certification to Oregon.

You must pass the Frontline exam (unless you’re DPSST-certified or possess a bachelor’s degree or higher) as well as a background investigation, post-offer pre-employment drug test, and physical and psychological exams.

  • Pay & Benefits:

    • Annual Pay Range:  $80,869.32 - $103,558.83
      Hourly Pay Range:   $38.87 - $49.78

    Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:

    • Must be currently or have been certified as a basic police officer for at least eighteen (18) months within the last five (5) years.

    • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.

    • Must be a United States citizen or be one within eighteen (18) months of hire.

    • Must be free from criminal convictions other than minor traffic violations.

    • Experience thinking clearly and performing effectively in stressful or emergency situations.

    • Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

Parole & Probation Technician

We're hiring a Parole & Probation Technician (classified as a Human Services Assistant). This position will review client cases and program eligibility, conduct client interviews, monitor compliance, maintain records, write correspondence, coordinate outreach activities, and perform other support activities for the department's various programs.

The most competitive candidate will have education and/or training in criminal justice, social or behavioral sciences or a related field and have work experience involving justice involved clients or those in a treatment or correctional setting.  Additionally, strong candidates will have previous experience to effectively case manage clients with different backgrounds and behaviors and provide counseling and motivation to support change.

  • PAY & BENEFITS:

    • Annual Pay Range:  $55,865.83 - $70,451.55

    • Hourly Pay Range:   $26.85 - $33.87

Parole & Probation Officer 1

(Entry-Level)

Our Parole & Probation Division is seeking qualified and motivated individuals for Parole & Probation Officer 1.

 The Parole & Probation Officer 1 position is the entry-level position in the Parole and Probation Officer series and includes the use of limited peace officer powers. The position requires day-to-day interaction with offenders using basic corrections knowledge and interpersonal communication skills.

After successful completion of all the required training, the incumbent will be promoted to Parole & Probation Officer 2, which typically takes at least one year.

Parole and Probation Officers will be required to carry firearms issued by the Sheriff's Office in the performance of their duties.

The most competitive candidates will have knowledge of:

  • Basic concepts and principles of social and corrections case and group work;

  • Criminal laws and the criminal justice system; and
